Australian Government demonstrate best practice, Australian Citizens benefits

(20th April 2001)

Sydney, Australia: Australia 's federal and state government bodies are leading the Asia Pacific region with Internet Technology implementation, yet is failing to export the knowledge methodology and management on a world-wide basis, according to a new study prepared by APT Strategies on the 'Economic Benefits for Australian Government Online'.

Following an in-depth review of over  100 federal and state government agencies throughout Australia, there are demonstrable benefits of cost cutting, improved environmental impacts, social cohesion, as well as redistributed economic benefits resulting from quicker than forecasted returns on investment. According to Gillian Dias, co-author of the report, "it's imperative we continue to benchmark government department's e-commerce, e-business and Internet technology deployments  to ascertain the achievements in the speed of implementation, quality and efficiency."

The report  recommends that with the Australian Federal Government requiring all appropriate government services to be online by 2001, there are some large commercial opportunities open for local  technology solutions providers.

With 60 per cent of government bodies enjoying the results of best practice, citizens in Australia are enjoying improved customer service, with federal, state, and local departments implementing e-commerce and Internet technology at a rapid rate

"Registering vehicles, monitoring weather conditions  and finding lost pets  - these are some of the benefits Australian citizens enjoy over other Asia Pacific countries," according to Marc Phillips, from APT Strategies.

The report outlines the clear benefits in 20 services that Australia eCitizens are being provided and concludes that an increased standard of living is clearly being provided to Australian residents

Further details of the study will be published periodically.
