Commuter Passengers Confirm They Want Out Of Home TV
(25th September, 2003)
Sydney, Australia:
Sydney, Australia: Reaching commuter audiences is no longer restricted to static
billboards with the launch of GRV.tv, a passenger entertainment system bringing
audiovisual entertainment and information to travellers on public transport networks.
GRV.tv is currently running on Sydney's Metro Light Rail tram service. Programming
is developed in conjunction with passenger feedback, with content and advertising
messages being tailored to the demographics of these travelers.
Recently, APT Strategies conducted attitudinal research on the Metro Light Rail
passengers, which confirmed that the majority of passengers are interacting with
the system.
"75 per cent of respondents indicated that they were interacting with the
information and entertainment system.
Program content on the Central to Lilyfield Station route includes a mix of news,
current affairs, sports, weather updates, travel, lifestyle programs, comedy spots,
music videos and Vox pops.
"The 6 key content categories that are being requested include; News (76%);
Weather (37%); Sport (29%); Music (26%); Comedy (18%); Travel (18%)."
Shane Murray, Media Services Director for GRV Media commented, "GRV.tv is at the forefront of Out of Home audio visual media delivery solutions and brings the Australian public transport experience in line with other market leading transport services in Europe, the UK and Asia."
Commenting on consumer perception of GRV.tv he added, "With technology changing media access and consumption, consumers expect their news and entertainment to be accessible at any time and almost any place. Bringing news and entertainment to public transport networks is the next step in meeting consumer demands for timely information delivery."
The passenger entertainment system involves strategically placed LCD Monitors inside the vehicles, via which the content is delivered in real time format. Sydney?s Light Rail passengers can view GRV.tv screens from anywhere in the carriage, and passengers can listen to the audio via a roof mount audio system?s.
GRV.tv's in house production studios acquires and encodes content prior to distribution onto the system. The information is then dispatched using wireless technology. The result is that programming evolves and is refreshed throughout the day to match the needs of commuters and leisure seekers.
Content providers and advertisers are impressed with the GRV.tv solution to reach commuter audiences and see this as the next step to communicate to highly mobile and technology savvy market.
According to Marc Phillips, CEO of APT Strategies, "GRV.tv offers new levels of accessibility to audiences that is proving to be low consumers of FTA and Cable. As this service is rolled out to other rail networks, advertisers will be able to leverage a dynamically positioned audiovisual medium."
Mr. Phillips went onto to say that, "GRV.tv will continue to monitor and introduce services based on regular passenger feedback. It is important to build a close relationship with this audience as a service like GRV.tv offers a greater degree of personalization due to its unique location."
